India@100 with Future Ready MSMEs

26 Nov 2022

The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector has always played a major role in the socio-economic development of India. Spread across both urban and rural parts of the country, MSMEs are increasingly contributing towards the economic and social development of the country and their role will further witness a rise as India marches ahead towards completing 100 years of independence.

MSMEs play a critical role when it comes to generating employment opportunities, a prerequisite for a country’s economic growth, and empowering the population at large. Apart from building a diverse range of products, they have been contributing significantly towards increasing India’s share in global trade. This makes it necessary for the MSMEs to have access to global practices, new age technology and innovative financial solutions to resolve the challenges of the past and become future ready.

The path to India@100 requires MSMEs to adopt new age technologies which support them in keeping pace with the fast-evolving requirements of the industry and market. The right knowledge and handholding can support MSMEs and help them understand global requirements, enabling them to increase their share in the global trade.

These technologies will help in making MSMEs future ready, while ensuring that they adopt sustainable business practices. This requires constant handholding and access to innovative finance, which will address the most prominent challenge most MSMEs are witnessing in today’s business environment.

The Government of India, through its multiple agencies, is implementing a host of schemes for the amelioration of this sector. Aimed at improving the overall SME ecosystem in the country, these schemes are targeted at credit provisioning and financial inclusion of these enterprises, skill development, quality enhancement, technological upgradation, policy support, enhanced market linkages, boosting exports, etc.
