Fuelled by innovation and strong Government support, the industry is growing rapidly and setting its sights on global leadership. In year 2023, India’s medical device industry was valued at US$ 15.35 billion and is now projected to reach US$ 20.51 billion by 2029. By fostering local manufacturing, advancing R&D, and encouraging collaborations, India is well-positioned to become a major player in the global MedTech landscape.
Accelerating India’s MedTech Transformation
With India’s MedTech sector gaining momentum, CII is organizing the 17th Global MedTech Summit with an aim to fast-track the country’s evolution into a global medical device manufacturing powerhouse. The Summit will bring together a diverse mix of stakeholders, including policymakers, MedTech industry leaders, healthcare providers, regulators, researchers, startups, consultants, and health IT professionals. International associations will also contribute to this collaborative platform. Together, these voices will drive conversations around scaling domestic production, reducing import dependency, expanding exports, and enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
The deliberations will revolve around the following key themes:
- Navigating Regulatory Landscape of Medical Device Industry: With evolving global and domestic regulations, ensuring compliance and patient safety is important for the growth of MedTech Industry. The session will explore recent regulatory updates including India Medical Device Rules, UCMDMP, global harmonization efforts and best practices for fast-tracking approvals. Experts from regulatory bodies and industry leaders will provide insights into navigating the complexities of compliance while fostering innovation.
- AI in MedTech – Ethics to Care, Ethics to Share: AI in MedTech raises ethical considerations regarding patient care (ethics to care) and data sharing (ethics to share), encompassing privacy, transparency, fairness and accountability, requiring careful navigation of legal and regulatory frameworks. The discussion during the session will explore how AI-driven solutions can enhance clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and treatment while ensuring that ethical principles remain at the forefront. Key discussions will address Patient-centric AI, Data governance and security, Bias and fairness in AI models, Regulatory and legal implications.
- Accelerating MedTech Innovation for enhanced patient outcomes: The MedTech industry is at the forefront of rapid innovation with continuously evolving to improve healthcare delivery and patient care. This session will explore the latest advancements in medical device technology and their transformative impact on patient outcomes. Discussions will focus on how emerging technologies—such as AI-driven diagnostics, robotics, personalized medicine, and minimally invasive procedures—are revolutionizing treatment approaches, enhancing precision, and improving overall healthcare efficiency.
- India Matters – Boosting India Attractiveness for Medtech Investment & Innovation Potential: India is at the cusp of becoming a global leader in MedTech innovation. This session will explore the key enablers – Government incentives, R&D ecosystem, public-private partnerships and infrastructure that can enhance India’s position as a MedTech innovation powerhouse. Industry pioneers and policymakers will discuss the role of incubators, Government funding mechanisms & schemes such as PRIPS, SMDI for bolstering innovation.
- Building Manufacturing & Supply Chain Resilience in MedTech: The Indian MedTech industry remains heavily reliant on imports for specialized materials essential to medical device manufacturing. This session will focus on India journey towards self-reliance, strategies for mitigating global supply chain disruptions and the role of advanced manufacturing technologies in ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Addressing MedTech Cost Inputs: The basic customs duty (BCD) on raw materials for medical device manufacturing currently ranges from 5% to 15%, contributing to high domestic production costs. The session will explore strategies to address these challenges, including the benefits of a zero percent duty on essential inputs and a more rationalized BCD structure.
- Enhancing Skill Development & Workforce Readiness in MedTech: As India emerges as a global hub for medical device innovation and manufacturing, building a highly skilled workforce is crucial to sustaining this momentum. This session will explore strategies to bridge skill gaps, enhance technical expertise, and foster industry-academia collaboration. Experts will discuss the role of upskilling, digital training, and policy support in preparing the next generation of MedTech professionals. Join us to uncover how India can develop a future-ready workforce to drive growth, innovation, and global competitiveness in the medical device industry
The 17th CII Global MedTech Summit presents a unique opportunity to shape the future of India’s MedTech industry through collaboration, innovation, and strategic dialogue.
