Launched on 13 October 2021, PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan (NMP) has transformed how India plans and executes infrastructure. Conceived as a revolutionary whole-of-government platform, it integrates multiple ministries, departments, and states into a single geospatial and data-driven planning ecosystem bringing speed, synergy, and sustainability to infrastructure development and laying the foundation for Viksit Bharat 2047.

Tracking Success: The Story of PM Gati Shakti
At its core, Gati Shakti ensures that infrastructure planning is no longer siloed. Through its Network Planning Group (NPG), 293 major projects worth ₹13.59 lakh crore have been evaluated using a unified approach that emphasises multimodality, last-mile connectivity and cost efficiency. A powerful GIS-based platform integrates more than 1,700 data layers from 57Central ministries and departments and all 36 states and UTs, enabling better decision-making, reduced delays and improved coordination.
Driving Economic Growth and Inclusive Connectivity
This integration is already yielding results. Aligned with the National Logistics Policy, Gati Shakti is helping reduce logistics costs and infrastructure gaps, contributing to India’s improved 38th rank in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (2023). It is not just connecting ports, railways, and highways, it is also identifying and bridging social infrastructure gaps in healthcare, education, postal services, and tribal development, ensuring inclusive growth.
PM Gati Shakti is also vital to India’s Net Zero 2070 ambition by promoting green infrastructure and sustainable logistics solutions. Its cooperative federalism model with Empowered Group of Secretaries, NPG and a Technical Support Unit drives collaboration across all levels of government. Regular regional workshops and stakeholder engagements are deepening adoption and knowledge sharing across the country.
The Road Ahead for PM Gati Shakti: Innovation, Integration and Inclusion
Looking ahead, PM Gati Shakti aims to expand its reach by enabling access to non-sensitive data for non-government users, fostering innovation in infrastructure planning. Plans are also underway to extend its geospatial capabilities to international cooperation, showcasing India’s expertise in integrated infrastructure planning globally.
As the initiative completes four years, PM Gati Shakti stands as a powerful driver of Atmanirbhar Bharat, creating an interconnected, inclusive, and future-ready infrastructure network. It is not just transforming the way India builds, it is redefining how India grows.
