The AI Era: Bridging Creativity and Commerce

The global Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry has seen significant growth over the past few decades, reaching an estimated value of USD 2.6 trillion in 2024 and expected to exceed USD 4 trillion by 2030. This is largely driven by digital transformation, streaming, gaming, digital advertising, and immersive content technologies.

Flourishing  M&E Sector

India’s M&E market, valued at over USD 40 billion in 2025, is among the fastest growing worldwide and projected to cross USD 100 billion by 2030.This rapidly expanding market is driven by a large millennial and Gen Z population crossing over 91 crore. Key enablers also include increasing broadband subscriptions, smartphone users, core internet users, rising per capita income, world’s cheapest data costs, and a thriving regional and vernacular content ecosystem. Supportive government policies, along with technological infrastructure has also allowed for growth of digital media, over the top (OTT),  online gaming, animation and visual effects, live events, and music.

The M&E Inflection Point

Today, India’s digital penetration stands at 65%, much higher than the global average of 58%, with regional language content accounting for half of the consumption. The deep penetration of M&E signals a market that has potential for exploration, enhanced by AI-driven technologies.

The AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics) sector is said to be the catalyst to empower the M&E industry. The approval by the Union Cabinet for the establishment of the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality also shows significant steps towards making India a global hub for AVGC. The use of AI in the M&E sector has powered many innovations such as content personalization that boosts viewer engagement by over 30%. AI is also used for content creation, assistance in generating scripts and music, and automating tasks like video editing, dubbing, and captioning. In gaming, AI also governs the creation of more realistic, non-player characters (NPCs) to power a more dynamic and immersive gaming world.

Against this backdrop, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing the 12th CII BIG Picture Summit from 1-2 December, 2025 in Mumbai to explore the theme, “The AI Era: Bridging Creativity and Commerce”. The summit will act as a critical convergence point to explore a future where AI harmoniously enhances creativity and commerce and lay policy frameworks and workforce capacity building programs to get there. Furthermore, it will reinforce India’s position as a hub of creative innovation and a nexus where technology, commerce and artistry converge to shape the future of M&E industry.
