The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) unveiled the VLFM Success Story Book 2024, a milestone publication marking its launch after six years and celebrating the impactful journeys undertaken by Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing (VLFM) participants across various sectors. Launched at the CII VLFM Learning Convention and Graduation Ceremony on 19^th November 2024, in Mumbai, this inspiring collection is a testament to leadership excellence in India’s manufacturing landscape.

The launch was made by a distinguished panel of industry leaders, including Mr. Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman of CII Naoroji Godrej Centre of Manufacturing Excellence and Chairman & Managing Director of Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd., Mr. R Mukundan, Vice President of CII and Managing Director & CEO of Tata Chemicals, Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII, and Mr. B Thiagarajan, Managing Director of Blue Star Ltd.

About The Book

The VLFM Success Story Book 2024, titled “Transformative Journey of Visionary Leaders Creating Breakthrough Success: Inspiring Case Studies from VLFM Champions,” presents 34 compelling case studies from a wide range of industries. These stories showcase how VLFM participants have applied the program’s principles to achieve remarkable outcomes, including enhanced operational efficiency, innovative business models, and measurable improvements in overall performance.

The book highlights significant accomplishments in areas such as business breakthrough, quality improvement, productivity enhancement, cost savings, space optimization, material movement reduction, and employee engagement. Beyond celebrating these successes, the book provides practical insights for aspiring leaders, serving as a guiding resource for the manufacturing community to embrace innovation, leadership, and continuous improvement to drive transformative change.

The National Mission

The Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing (VLFM) Programme, established in December 2006 under a joint technical cooperation agreement between the Prime Ministers of India and Japan, addresses the need for leadership excellence to enhance India’s manufacturing competitiveness. The program is a unique collaboration between the Government of India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), CII and premier academic institutions like IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and IIM Calcutta, transforming leadership paradigms and driving innovation in manufacturing.

Plans are underway to enhance learning experiences through integrated virtual textbooks and structured curricula, establish an Alumni Connect group for fostering collaboration among 1,300+ alumni, and launch the VLFM Awards to recognise outstanding contributions. Additionally, CII aims to introduce a standardised practitioner rating system and extend the program’s scope to emerging sectors like defence, aerospace, tourism, and healthcare.
